1 NOTE Kymani's mother, Anita Belnavis, who reigned as Jamaica's table tennis 
2 CONC (ping-pong) champion back in the 1970's, did much to shape and develop 
2 CONC her only child, born on February 26, 1976. Kymani was only 5 yearsold 
2 CONC when his father passed away in 1981 and many of his memories of Bob are 
2 CONC mostly from his mother. Growing up surrounded by a love of sports by both 
2 CONC his parents, Kymani naturally developed a love of sports himself and 
2 CONC never dreamed of musical stardom, especially after he moved to Miami with 
2 CONC his mother in the mid 1980's. However, Anita encouraged him to take piano 
2 CONC and guitar lessons and he played the trumpet in his high school band. 
2 CONC Eventually he came to the attention of Clifton "Specialist" Dillon from 
2 CONC the Miami Beach-based Shang Records. Dillon, as the manager/ producer 
2 CONC behind the early `90's crossover success of Shabba Ranks, Patra and Mad 
2 CONC Cobra, was a pioneer in bringing Dancehall music to the forefront of the 
2 CONC international music market.

2 CONC children, he grew up in the intensely musical atmosphere of his father's 
2 CONC Hope Road home. By the age of 13 he had formed a band with the son of Cat 
2 CONC Coore from Third World. Calling themselves the Shepherds, the group 
2 CONC performed at local venues before taking their act to such big-time events 
2 CONC as Reggae Bash '92 and the Sunsplash '92 Bob Marley Tribute. He played 
2 CONC the Sting show the same year, then in 1993 played at Sunsplash and toured 
2 CONC with the Shabba Ranks World Unity Tour.

2 CONT Recently Damian has been performing on the same bill with his brother 
2 CONC Julian. In 1996 they opened for Ziggy and the Melody Makers, a tour which 
2 CONC took them throughout the U.S., Central and South America. His debut 
2 CONC album, "Mr. Marley", features the production skills of brother Stephen, 
2 CONC and was one of the first projects conceived by the Ghetto Youth 
2 CONC International production label.

2 CONT Released in September 1996, it drew acclaim from both the reggae massive

1 NOTE Julian Marley has been around music all his life. Born in London in 1975,

2 CONC the unique perspective that comes with an upbringing in a multicultural 
2 CONC community. Since recording his first song at age five at the Marley 
2 CONC family home in Kingston, Julian has become a skillful, self-taught 
2 CONC musician, mastering the bass, drums, and keyboards. In 1989 he released 
2 CONC his first album, titled "Uprising" -- also the name of his new band. He 
2 CONC moved to Jamaica in 1992 and began to work with such reggae veterans as 
2 CONC Aston "Family Man" Barrett, Earl "Wire" Lindo, Tyrone Downie and Earl 
2 CONC "Chinna" Smith.

2 CONT His most recent release, "Lion in the Morning", is the culmination of his 
2 CONC musical development to date, a conscious effort that reflects his growing 
2 CONC maturity and musical sophistication. Collaborating on the album with 
2 CONC Julian was the Ghetto Youths International production team founded by 
2 CONC siblings Stephen and Ziggy. The family connection goes further: it was 
2 CONC recorded at the newly renovated Marley Music studio at Hope Road in 
2 CONC Kingston, the studio where his father created some of his most important 
2 CONC and well-known work. While clearly reflecting his roots and heritage, the 
2 CONC album is his however his own testament.

2 CONT A veteran performer despite his youth, Julian has performed at Jamaica's

2 CONT Imagine being the son of a musical prophet. Your father was at the 
2 CONC forefront of a cultural, political, social and sonic revolution. Almost 
2 CONC everywhere you go, you see tee-shirts, stickers, and posters bearing your 
2 CONC father’s image. You can hear his words and messages every day on the 
2 CONC radio. Would the decision to enter the music world loom over you because 
2 CONC of your father’s legacy? So what would you do if you were the son of a 
2 CONC musical prophet? 
2 CONT 
2 CONT If you’re Ky-Mani Marley (pronounced key-mon-ee), son of reggae icon Bob 
2 CONC Marley, then you take it all in stride. Everything is irie for the 
2 CONC 23-year-old Miami resident, and second youngest of Bob’s 11 children. 
2 CONC Considering the pressures placed on him as a result of nepotic 
2 CONC associations, Ky-Mani has a remarkably positive attitude that reflects on 
2 CONC his debut CD, The Journey (Gee Street/V2 Records). 
2 CONT 
2 CONT In the middle of a month-long tour supporting his new album, the 
2 CONC soft-spoken Ky-Mani pauses after completing a soundcheck (at Cincinnati’s 
2 CONC Electra night club) to offer some insight on what it’s like to be a 
2 CONC prophet’s son. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT “It’s a wonderful thing for me to be compared to him, there’s no other 
2 CONC person I’d rather be compared to than my father,” says Ky-Mani, about the 
2 CONC constant association. “Sometimes the only pressure I feel is people’s 
2 CONC expectations.” Inheriting Bob’s zen-like Rasta philosophies, he adds, 
2 CONC “Ky-Mani can only give what Ky-Mani can give. I’m not Robert Nesta 
2 CONC Marley, but I’m always giving 110 percent.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT On The Journey’s cover, Ky-Mani’s surname is excluded. “Yes this was 
2 CONC intentional,” he declares. “Not only am I a Marley, I’m also an artist, 
2 CONC and I feel I have a lot of things to say. Listen to what I have to say 
2 CONC and contribute. Listen to Ky-Mani because I’m Ky-Mani, not only because 
2 CONC I’m a Marley.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Although he speaks in the first person quite often, Ky-Mani does not come 
2 CONC across as arrogant and self-serving, like many of today’s artists. On the 
2 CONC contrary, his music is full of heart, soul, and spirit. Fitting 
2 CONC attributes for a man whose East African name means “adventurous 
2 CONC traveler.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Describing his passionate songs, he explains, “My message is always to 
2 CONC deal with love, peace, and unity … one love, one aim, one destiny. That’s 
2 CONC the most powerful thing, and if people can feel that on these tracks, 
2 CONC then I have done something right.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Despite being only five years old when his father died (18 years ago of 
2 CONC cancer at age 36), Ky-Mani still looks to him as a major source of 
2 CONC inspiration. Perhaps the best way to explain Ky-Mani’s feelings toward 
2 CONC his mystical father is to examine the lyrics from “Dear Dad.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Dear Dad – I really didn’t get to know you / And sometimes I sit and 
2 CONC wonder and it makes me blue / But there is one memory that stays on the 
2 CONC back of my mind / And this memory got me thinking ‘bout you all the time 
2 CONC / Wow! I swear we miss you so / and I wish that you were here to see your 
2 CONC boys grow / In case you’re wondering, mommy she’s doing fine / And she 
2 CONC tells me stories ‘bout you Papa all the time … 
2 CONT 
2 CONT The fond memory Ky-Mani holds dear to his heart – it is the only one he 
2 CONC has about his father - is the time when Marley came to pick him up in the 
2 CONC Jamaican countryside town of Falmouth. Ky-Mani was playing with a 
2 CONC slingshot along with his brother Stephen. Ky-Mani does not mention 
2 CONC anything specific, there’s nothing in detail he recalls about this event, 
2 CONC but there is a sense of pride in his tone, having shared an experience 
2 CONC with his father, a man who some called “the first third-world superstar.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT “Growing up, I never thought of being a musician. I didn’t set out to 
2 CONC follow in my father’s footsteps,” claims Ky-Mani, who plays guitar, piano 
2 CONC and drums, and is a father of three. “I was into sports growing up.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Ky-Mani, who still plays soccer, is the son of former Jamiacan/Carribean 
2 CONC National Women’s table tennis champion, Anita Belnavis. When Jamaica 
2 CONC played against Brazil during the World Cup Finals in ’98, Ky-Mani had the 
2 CONC honor of singing the Jamaican national anthem. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT As a teenager, Ky-Mani started rapping and deejaying. He started laying 
2 CONC tracks and experimenting musically with Stephen and his other brothers 
2 CONC Julian and Damian. Singing, however, would eventually be his inspiration. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT In 1997, Ky-Mani made major headways with the new generation of reggae 
2 CONC and hip-hop artists. He teamed with Praswell of The Fugees on the hit 
2 CONC cover of Eddy Grant’s “Electric Avenue.” Ky-Mani became the subject of 
2 CONC record label bidding battles after his appearance at Midem, an 
2 CONC international music showcase. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Other buzz-worthy collaborations include one with Gee Street/V2 Records 
2 CONC label mates P.M. Dawn, for the Senseless soundtrack (“Gotta Be Movin’ On 
2 CONC Up”), and another with reggae star Shaggy, covering the Marley classic, 
2 CONC “Thank You Lord.” 
2 CONT 
2 CONT It is Ky-Mani’s fondness for all genres of music, not just reggae, that 
2 CONC help portray his personal insight and universal themes. Just like his 
2 CONC father was a maverick to the reggae world, blending elements of rock and 
2 CONC jazz into his repertoire, Ky-Mari’s The Journey has sounds of hip-hop, 
2 CONC soul, and R&B among others.

2 CONT Asked if his father would like today’s reggae and hip-hop, Ky-Mani 
2 CONC responds, “Ya mon. I think as long as there is a positive message in the 
2 CONC songs. For my dad, it just wasn’t about the rhythm, it’s about the words 
2 CONC and the message.”

2 CONT It’s a shame that Ky-Mari wasn’t old enough to have more memories of his 
2 CONC father, but perhaps his innocence at the time will keep the memory of a 
2 CONC prophet pure.

2 CONT Ky-mani, the only child of Anita Belnavis, Jamaica’s table tennis 
2 CONC champion in the 70’s was six years old when his father, Reggae King Bob 
2 CONC Marley passed on. He left one memory with his small son, the time he 
2 CONC picked up Ky-mani in his Falmouth home and took the boy to visit his Nine 
2 CONC Miles birthplace. A lifelong sports fanatic, Ky-mani never wanted to take 
2 CONC the singer’s stage. “Singing hust happened”, he says. His first 
2 CONC performing experience, singing his own composition, “Your Love”, on his 
2 CONC 18th birthday, was at Miami’s annual Bob Marley festival.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Miami, Florida – The hype has been spreading. "Ky-mani is wicked!" 
2 CONC "Ky-mani sounds more like Bob than any one of the Marleys." Talk like 
2 CONC that can work to the detriment of a performer. Expectations are higher 
2 CONC than average. Add an international showcase like the first Latin American 
2 CONC & Caribbean music marketplace concert last fall, and the intensity could 
2 CONC be unbearable. 
2 CONT But the 21 years old son of Robert Nesta Marley handled all that, and 
2 CONC that some when walked onstage the Cameo Club for a Shang Records 
2 CONC showcase. The crowd had been tolerant of the previous acts. They seemed 
2 CONC to want to bypass Mical Rustle, M.K. Shine, Kashief and Nikiesha Lindo. 
2 CONC Although each held his own, the crowd was here for the young man 
2 CONC acclaimed as the sixth Marley.
2 CONT 
2 CONT He was no stranger to the marketplace. Accompanied by his agent Clifton 
2 CONC "Specialist" Dillion, he had made the rounds checking out the 
2 CONC international assembly of buyers and sellers who specialize in the 
2 CONC industry. This is the place the big guns bargain. They buy and sell music 
2 CONC to parts unknown. From Johannesburg, South Africa and Osaka, Japan – they 
2 CONC bring their briefcase ready to sign the future of the best.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Annually held in Cannes, France, this first MIDEM in Florida was a test. 
2 CONC Cubans here had boycotted the conference saying pro-Castro success 
2 CONC stories were going to prevail. So it was up to the reggae acts to shine 
2 CONC this debut to success.
2 CONT 
2 CONT The night was Ky-mani. Patra, another name billed had opted to stay away. 
2 CONC For reasons unknown she did not pre-cede Ky-mani as she was billed. On 
2 CONC the previous night, a Studio One showcase proved embarrassing to the 
2 CONC Jamaican delegation. So it was up to Mr. Marley. Like a legend, his name 
2 CONC was being repeated. Perhaps, overhyped.
2 CONT 
2 CONT "If you hear him talk, he sounds just like Bob," someone said. "He and 
2 CONC Steven sound more like Bob than any one of dem," another stated.
2 CONT 
2 CONT That was the scenario.
2 CONT 
2 CONT When the lights dimmed for an introduction to the Miami residents, there 
2 CONC was a serenity. Someone mentioned how he awed the crowds at the Bob 
2 CONC Marley celebration here in 1997. The individual claimed that 30,000 
2 CONC people were mesmerized by his likeness to his famous father. Here, it was 
2 CONC a test. But the testers seemed fair. They seemed to want to give the 
2 CONC young man a passing grade. It’s enough that he’s a Marley. His dad left 
2 CONC when he was just six years old. Why test him harshly?
2 CONT 
2 CONT Ky-mani took the mike, and for nearly 15 minutes lavished the space with 
2 CONC memories of Marley. "No Woman No Cry," "Hypocrites," to name a few. He 
2 CONC kept the songs coming. When he stopped, he said, "The first segment was 
2 CONC dedicated to my dad."
2 CONT 
2 CONT Here in Miami, her in MIDEM and here on a reggae showcase, dad is loved. 
2 CONC The crowd roared their approval. They had been sounding off all kinds of 
2 CONC exclamations. Each one louder than the next, to voice the opinion that 
2 CONC Ky-mani is Bob Marley incarnate.
2 CONT 
2 CONT "Close your eyes and it’s Bob," Earl Chin of Rockers TV said. A die hard 
2 CONC Bob Marley fan, Chin emphasized that Ky-mani was personal too. The real 
2 CONC test though was not in the reprising of Bob Marley compositions, his 
2 CONC tunes are accepted when Beenie Man, Shaggy, Luciano, or anyone sings 
2 CONC them. The challenge was to hear him sing his own.
2 CONT 
2 CONT "Sensimilia" came. He sang it as if he wanted to convince everyone he was 
2 CONC his own singer. The response was polite. Then came the music of "Crazy 
2 CONC Baldhead." The executive producer, Dillion took his position. It was the 
2 CONC introduction to "Dear Dad," the track that is all the rage. Written in 
2 CONC tribute to his father, the message was sent "via God."
2 CONT 
2 CONT With gestures symbolic of his father’s, Ky-mani held his hand against his 
2 CONC head as if in agony. His movements resembled Bob’s. But so does Ziggy’s, 
2 CONC Steven’s, Damian’s and Julian’s – they are cut from the same fabric. He 
2 CONC seemed to want quiet. He seemed to want to converse with everyone. A 
2 CONC message to his dad about things, the way they are in 1997, "that’s when 
2 CONC we miss you so…" The crowd understood. It was a father-son moment and we 
2 CONC were intruders to the letter. But Ky-mani held firm. He even walked over 
2 CONC to one of the speakers and stood taller by his words. Hen he finished, 
2 CONC there was silence. There was applause. Yet it was obvious everyone was 
2 CONC thinking too fast to respond.
2 CONT 
2 CONT The silence was broken when he was handed a guitar. The young Ky-mani, 
2 CONC casually dressed in jeans, sits on a stool and for many, this is the 
2 CONC track that impressed them most. It was an original track and he sings 
2 CONC earnestly. His phrasings, altogether his. His emphasis, his, and here is 
2 CONC the Ky-mani everyone wanted to see.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Some say the Marley offsprings have had a tough load to bear. They seemed 
2 CONC to carry the legacy of their father by emulating his very act. Many think 
2 CONC it is a deterrent. For a time, Ziggy is his own. It’s a tough lesson to 
2 CONC learn, however, the quicker it is learnt, the better accepted each 
2 CONC individual would be in the eyes of the public.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Ky-mani was named after an East African word that means "adventurous 
2 CONC traveler." Born February 26, 1976, in Trelawny, Jamaica, he spent the 
2 CONC early years of his life living in Falmouth, Jamaica with his mother Anita 
2 CONC Belnavis. She was a table-tennis pro. By age eight the fatherless Ky-mani 
2 CONC had migrated to Miami, Florida. He never imagined himself a singer, 
2 CONC instead he always gravitated toward sport- choosing soccer, the sport his 
2 CONC dad loved.
2 CONT 
2 CONT His earliest composition was "Unnecessary Badness," a song that addressed 
2 CONC the violence and bloodshed he witnessed. It was a fluke he wrote and 
2 CONC performed the track. But a shrewd producer recognized his talent and 
2 CONC recorded the track. It became a popular anthem for peace. Now signed to 
2 CONC Shang Records, his management is under the watchful eyes of Dillion, the 
2 CONC same orchestrator who steered Shabba Ranks, Patra, and Mad Cobra to world 
2 CONC notice. Dillion has had Ky-mani on tracks with gospel singers, the Grace 
2 CONC Trillers. They recorded the 23rd Psalm and named it "The Prayer."
2 CONT 
2 CONT Ky-mani has already amassed some positive response from tracks he 
2 CONC collaborated with Shaggy. His reworking of Eddy Grant’s "Electric Avenue" 
2 CONC put him in the pop-R&B category for radio airplay. Now reaching into 
2 CONC mainstream via the Money Talks sound track, Ky-mani’s alliance with 
2 CONC Wyclef of the Fugees is definitely a plus. Performers like Hootie & The 
2 CONC Blowfish are asking about his voice. Set against deejay Beenie Man, 
2 CONC Ky-mani is rooted in his Jamaican flavour. And with compositions like 
2 CONC "Guantanamera" Ky-mani’s diversity peaks. He has even worked with Patra. 
2 CONC His input seemed to enhance her career that has been almost absent for 
2 CONC too long. The two recorded "Judge Not," a song that also speaks to 
2 CONC skeptics who write off the female as a slacker.

2 CONT "What about judgement day, I say," he asked in musically tones.
2 CONT 
2 CONT "He’s on his way," Pele Lanier said. Out in the crowd is Don Taylor, a 
2 CONC former Marley manager, Desi Young of the Jamaica Federation of Musicians, 
2 CONC Copeland Forbes stood by the bar, Jacqueline Neath, of the Film, 
2 CONC Television and Entertainment division of JAMPRO, and Andrea Davis watched 
2 CONC from the balcony. Registrants were everywhere. There were some paying 
2 CONC customers too. And the reggae artists were present in numbers. They 
2 CONC wanted to experience Ky-mani.

2 CONT "He’s on the rise."
2 CONT 
2 CONT CANA radio carried the concert live to 33 radio stations. Six million 
2 CONC people heard Ky-mani Marley. Some may have mistaken him for his dad. Now 
2 CONC they know, another Marley is on the rise. Perhaps there is more to come. 
2 CONC But for now Ky-mani is making his mark.

2 CONT When Bob was preparing for a tour, he and his football cronies would 
2 CONC follow a strict regime of physical exercise. Rising at 4:30 or 5:00 a.m., 
2 CONC he would rendezvous with Skill Cole, who lived in Bull Bay with Judy 
2 CONC Mowatt. Then the two of them would link up with Bunny Wailer, at whose 
2 CONC place Neville Garrick was likely to have passed the night.
2 CONT 
2 CONT There were two possible runs: the mile and a half along road and track to 
2 CONC Cane river, where they would wash their locks in the waterfall, or a hard 
2 CONC sand run along the beach to Rock, about a mile or so from Bunny's house. 
2 CONC If they bought fresh fish from the fishermen who were just coming in with 
2 CONC their catches, they would go by Bunny's and fry up the doctor or parrot 
2 CONC fish or snapper.
2 CONT 
2 CONT If they drove back into Kingston straight away, they would probably stop 
2 CONC off at Hope Gardens. Here a woman kept a dozen or so cows, and they would 
2 CONC buy fresh, warm milk from her. Back at 56 Hope Road they would make green 
2 CONC banana porridge. Skill Cole and Gillie, meanwhile, might get into one of 
2 CONC their juice-blending competitions, both being connoisseurs.
2 CONT The Permanent Hustle
2 CONT By ten in the morning the permanent hustle that was rarely absent from 
2 CONC the yard would be underway. The Tuff Gong record store would have opened 
2 CONC and ghetto rankin's and junior rankin's would be coming up to check Bob 
2 CONC or to hustle him for money, or just to cool out: 56 Hope Road was about 
2 CONC the only uptown place that a ghetto youth could hang in without 
2 CONC experiencing the wrath of the police. During the time of the Peace 
2 CONC Concert even Michael Manley passed by to idle away an hour or so. Bob was 
2 CONC also extremely welcoming to the 'mad' people - a feature of Jamaican life 
2 CONC - who would peer through the white fence, pouring out their 
2 CONC stream-of-consciousness rants. "It a mad man," Bob would say, always 
2 CONC eager to hear an extreme point of view, "send him in for a reasoning."
2 CONT 
2 CONT Bob used to like holding court in the shades of the awning over the front 
2 CONC steps. Serious football, meanwhile, would be in progress on the grass 
2 CONC covered front yard. Sometimes a man would come up with large quantities 
2 CONC of fish or fruit for Bob. If there was enough fish to go round, they 
2 CONC corrugated zinc, and light a fire underneath.
2 CONT Rankin' Gunmen
2 CONT As the voice of the ghetto, Bob could not help attracting gangsters and 
2 CONC gunmen, who have always been fond of mingling with entertainers. Alan 
2 CONC Cole's position as a sports superstar held a similar appeal. Those around 
2 CONC Bob believe he also liked mixing with notorious characters. But Bob could 
2 CONC be ruthlessly tough himself: on one occasion he was seen beating a man 
2 CONC after he had been caught stealing money from a visitor.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Money was always an important issue. On Fridays, in particular, there 
2 CONC would be long lines of people waiting for Bob's charity, each with a 
2 CONC story to bend his ear. When the school term was about to start, 56 Hope 
2 CONC Road yard would be packed with mothers, pleading with Bob for money to 
2 CONC buy school uniforms. Sometimes he would distribute between $20,000 and 
2 CONC $40,000 at these sessions.
2 CONT 
2 CONT Screwface No
2 CONT After the Peace Concert many of the gunmen felt such a debt of gratitude 
2 CONC to Bob that they were even more in evidence at 56 Hope Road, to the point 
2 CONC where their presence became a problem, even sometimes a threat. Who could 
2 CONC tell what nefarious deals were taking place away in some corner under the 
2 CONC shade of a mango tree?
2 CONT "But as a Rasta you can't dismiss people," pointed out Neville Garrick. 
2 CONC "Him only shield him could wear was him noted screwface: the screwface 
2 CONC alone would turn people away. But then Bob love people and always want to 
2 CONC help them. Him can empathise with everything. Bob don't have no easier 
2 CONC life than any of them. Him kinda raised on the streets."
2 CONT 
2 CONT "He grew up with a lot of these guys," said Junior Marvin, "and he wanted 
2 CONC to straighten out a lot of them. He was trying to help them. He was 
2 CONC trying to say, 'Look you don't really need violence; if you've got that 
2 CONC kind of power, you don't have to use it: you can divert it into another 
2 CONC kind of positive energy.'"
2 CONT 
2 CONT In the evenings, however, a different life would go on. Round the back of 
2 CONC the house, Bob would sit with his close brethren. Strumming his guitar, 
2 CONC he would pick away at new or sometimes old songs. At these, the finest 
2 CONC times, a peace of almost visible proportions would descend. And, 
2 CONC protected by Jah, Bob would be in touch with the deepest source of his 
2 CONC creativity. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT Today, 56 Hope Road still remains an active place for reasoning, now home 
2 CONC to the Bob Marley Foundation and Museum.
2 CONT 
2 CONT The people of Jamaica came from all over the island to attend Marley's 
2 CONC funeral. His funeral service was held in Kingston's National Heroes 
2 CONC Arena. He had been given radiation treatment to fight the cancer invading 
2 CONC his body, and as a result, his dreadlocks had fallen out. Rita, his wife, 
2 CONC had kept the locks and they were woven into a wig which was placed on his 
2 CONC head. Sharing Bob's coffin with him were his Bible and his Gibson guitar.
2 CONT 
2 CONT At the state funeral there were readings from the Bible by Jamaica's 
2 CONC Governor General, and by Michael Manley, the Leader of the Opposition 
2 CONC Party. Edward Seaga, the Prime Minister, eulogized The Honourable Robert 
2 CONC Nesta Marley.
2 CONT 
2 CONT The Wailers, with the I-Threes backing them up on vocals, performed some 
2 CONC of Bob's songs. The Melody Makers, a group consisting of four of Bob and 
2 CONC Rita Marley's children, led by their eldest son Ziggy, also performed in 
2 CONC his honor. His mother, Mrs. Cedella Booker, sang "Coming In From the 
2 CONC Cold", one of the last songs Bob wrote. 
2 CONT 
2 CONT After the funeral in Kingston, Bob's coffin was then driven across the 
2 CONC island to Nine Miles, Bob's birthplace, a tiny hamlet in the middle of 
2 CONC Jamaica. Half the island flocked there to pay their respects. A joyous 
2 CONC celebratory occasion, the funeral of Bob Marley was the most significant 
2 CONC day of national mourning that the island had experienced. 
2 CONT In April 1981, Bob Marley was awarded Jamaica's Order of Merit, one of 
2 CONC its highest honors, in recognition of his contributions to the nation's 
2 CONC culture.
